There are several very prestigious ORNAC Awards that are presented biennially at the ORNAC National Conference.

These Awards recognize the contributions ORNAC Members have made to perioperative nursing in categories of Excellence (Isabelle Adams Award), Leadership (Muriel Shewchuk Award),  Education (Gloria Stephens Award) and ORNAC Board Contribution (Lorne Flower Award).  

Nominating a colleague for one of these Awards honours both the recipient and the organization! Each Award has a separate nomination form available for download.

Isabelle Adams ORNAC Montreal Conference 2005 2 THE ISABELLE ADAMS AWARD for EXCELLENCE in PERIOPERATIVE NURSING 

The Isabelle Adams Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing was established on the initiative of the Operating Room Nurses of Quebec (CORNQ / CISSOQ) in 1987. The first Award was presented in 1988 in Vancouver and is presented at the National Conference when there is an appropriate nominee – an outstanding nurse who has made a significant contribution to perioperative nursing in Canada, and who reflects the practice and ideals of Mrs. Isabelle Adams of Montreal.

 Gloria Stephens resized 2 THE GLORIA STEPHENS AWARD for EXCELLENCE as an  EDUCATOR IN PERIOPERATIVE NURSING 

The Gloria Stephens Award for Excellence as an Educator of Perioperative Nursing was established at the suggestion of and in collaboration with Ms. Gloria Stephens, ORNAC Past President, and presented for the first time in 2009. The Award is donated by Ms. Stephens and is presented at the National Conference when there is an appropriate nominee.

 Lorne2 THE LORNE FLOWER MEMORIAL AWARD 

The Lorne Flower Memorial Award was established in 2003 on the initiative of Lorne’s son, John Flower. The first award was presented in 2003 in Montreal and is presented at the National Conference when there is an appropriate nominee. The Award is donated by John Flower and recognizes Lorne’s contributions to ORNAC as first Chairman and his lengthy leadership of the National Exhibitors Association of Canada (NEAC) and is presented at the National Conference when there is an appropriate nominee - a past or present ORNAC Board member who made an outstanding contribution to the Board and to perioperative nursing in Canada.

 Muriel Shewchuk 2017 THE MURIEL SHEWCHUK LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Muriel Shewchuk Leadership Award was established by Muriel in 2007 to recognize a Canadian perioperative registered nurse whose leadership made an outstanding contribution to the profession of perioperative nursing at the local, provincial/territorial, national or international level. To continue to honour the late Muriel Shewchuk’s legacy and immeasurable contributions to ORNAC, the Award is jointly supported by the Shewchuk family and ORNAC and is presented at the National Conference when there is an appropriate nominee.
